I've been reading about every other post in this thread and as a long time Beatles fan, wanted to weigh in. I already own the entire Beatles catalog on CD and carry all their releases (minus "Live at the BBC" and a good number of tracks on the Anthologies) around with me on MP3 CD. I used to have it on iPod, but I got a shuffle and gave my 15GB to my wife. So, I have no need to purchase the music. Even if they remastered it, it would still be in 128kb AAC, and that would be a waste.

I would, however, buy a Beatles iPod in a second. Hell, I might even camp out at an Apple store for that. Some people here have said the band is old, and their time is over. I couldn't disagree more. Their music is as fresh as it was in the 60s. They completely changed the face of rock and roll and more importantly, the face of recording. Some of the things the band and George Martin did in the studio are groundbreaking. My list of favorite bands changes on a near daily basis, but the Beatles are always locked in at number 1 on that list. Their influence on modern artists is undeniable. I hear the influences in so many types of music, although that is disappearing with the garbage pawned off on the public as music these days.

I hope these rumors are true because I do think:

    1) Apple Computer innovated computing and the music industry with the iPod and iTunes, just as the Beatles did.

    2) The ads would be classic

    3) The thought of McCartney and Ringo with Steve Jobs on the MacWorld stage makes me tingle with anticipation.

    4) Apple Corps was created to breed and inspire creativity, and I think Apple computer does the same thing. It's a match made in heaven.

Owned? Aside from some random dislike of the "term",

    I worry about youth today.

Off topic here, but I have to say that I agree with you here. That owned or pwned terminology bugs me.

On topic, the story is good and I had to email it to a few friends of mine.

Seems like black is, well, the new black.

I suppose the 8GB Nano only being available in black is some kind of status thing.

Though I really like the new cases a lot as throwbacks to the Mini. I've got a 20GB 2G iPod from back in the day that's still going strong. But it's nice to know I could replace it with something as cool looking as the old Minis - especially in a year or so when Nano capacity will probably be 8-16GB (or maybe even over 20GB?!).

This mythical creature is Rangda. Rangda is the demon queen of the leyaks in Bali, according to traditional Balinese mythology. The leyak is a mythological figure in the form of flying head with entrails (heart, lung, liver, etc.) still attached. It is said to fly trying to find a pregnant woman in order to suck her baby's blood or a newborn child. Don't they sound friendly?

"Hardware accessories Apple Remote, 85W MagSafe Power Adapter, AC wall plug, power cord, lithium-polymer battery"

Why does that say 85W? Am i missing something, or is that a mistake? the 85W adapter is for the MBP's.

I'm guessing they did that so they could use the same adapters for both. The laptop itself still has a 60W ps.

Does this update my iPad to an iPad 2?

The reason the iPad's file size is so large (593MB) is because it has to install a camera on the top of the iPad, and if you go into the Settings> General> Bezel, you can now change it from Black to White (or vise versa) whenever you want.

This is an awesome update, hurry, download it.

    P.S.
    No onions.

Wait - so this guy ISN'T using AirPort extreme?

I haven't seen the video, but it sounds to me like he found some crappy third party card that's Mac compatible, which has a security problem, and deliberately decided to show this card's security problem on a Mac.

In other words - it's not an Apple issue, it's not an AirPort issue, it's not an OS X issue, it's not a MacBook issue - it's an issue with some weird USB Wireless card that could have been shown on any number of computers, but was recorded for the public in use on a MacBook.

    Is that correct?

If I'm right, that's so lame...

on the Mac one is told to re-download a 4GB application for a few piddly updates in much the same way one is forced to re-download the whole operating system.

    Thats no true.

Apple just a few days ago released Mac OS X 10.6.7 and was only 475MB, and the Combo update was only 1.12GB. Mac OS X 10.6.6 brought the Mac App Store and was only 143MB.

I don't know why your updates are 4GB.

Ah good to see that it's not worth upgrading my Core Duo MB to the new one, I think the speed increase wil lbe negligble (comparing a 1.83Ghz CD with 1.83C2D)

I think that's right, for the most part.

Those Core Duo MB owners might consider a hardrive upgrade, to a 7200rpm drive, for a nice speedbump.

Beatles are not my generation so I don't know a lot about them..but weren't they into free spirits and happiness and what not? Why are they all about suing and being greedy now?

Edit: which of them are even alive anymore to profit? Or is this the doing of their heirs?

"Paul and Bingo are still alive. John and Keith are dead." :)

They're "suing and being greedy" because they earned it. Their songs and likenesses are valuable, and they are entitled to revenues gained from them.

Wouldn't it be a little early to be ramping up production for a September launch?

Would this in any way make it more likely that the iPhone 5 is on track for a launch closer to its normal release window?

I know right, a long time ago I took a friend to a grand opening of a mac store and they had door prizes...he won an iMac, he instantly became a PC turned Mac person, now he owns more Apple stuff than I do.

No, I think this is an ideal time and place to deal with this issue. If we are discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the christian bible, this is one of the biggest.

I hear what you are saying, but again I would disagree. Though I'm not sure you intend to do so, the argument you have presented comes across as if all believers in the Bible ascribe to a theology of works. Though some denominations might function in this manner, it is not consistent with the primary message of the Bible which is that we are saved by grace through faith based on the sacrifice of Christ.

The concept of moral neutrality or clean slate at birth, is a long debated issue and you are correct in saying that the Bible teaches the doctrine of original sin. Based on scripture I personally believe that while man is definitely capable of "good" due to the fact that he has been created in the image of God, that image has been marred by sin. This leaves man in a "broken" condition and at the core we are selfish by nature.

Please hear what I'm saying, because as you correctly point out this can be a very confusing process, especially in a post modern world that espouses situational ethics and moral relativity. I believe in absolute truth, truth that exists outside of my perspective and is applicable regardless of how I "feel" about it.

An accurate understanding of original sin does not mean that man is completely "evil" in the sense that we are incapable of doing works that would be considered "good" or altruistic. The human spirit is capable of many good things, but without an accurate understanding of who God is and our relationship to him these good works become nothing but acts of vanity and self glorification that serve only to advance pride and promote self-reliance.

Like many of the things we have discussed in this thread I fully understand that this will hinge upon that impasse of faith that many can't get over.

THAT is exactly what Im talking about. All you people bitch and complain about new things/developments that Apple might be working on (and later announce) and at first you all hate it. Then you get used to it, and then one day you find you love it. I hope the iPhone does come out and you all hate it and it becomes a phenomenal success....the same case the iPod once faced. Same with the new names (MacBook). Same with the switch to Intel (now look how lucky we are). Same with the Intel integrated graphi...well...no one likes those actually, but my point is stop thinking you're going to hate it because you're most likely going to end up getting it anyway.

That's an amazing point!! I wasn't around these forums back then.. but I am blown away at the original iPod reaction!! Wow!!

This Constitutional issue is something of a moot point... Congress has only declared war FIVE times in the history of the country (the War of 1812, Mexican-American, Spanish-American, WWs I&II). There are 125 occasions where the President has acted with no approval from Congress. Also, the War Powers Resolution is essentially valid, as it has never been tested by courts.

In my personal view, I'm fine with the president being able to enact a limited amount of military action, as long as there are no long-term liabilities for the country. Congress is so juvenile, inefficient, and bitchy that I'm fine with not having to rely on them every time there is a clear humanitarian need to act.

Yeah, hacking is just taking something and tinkering with it to make it do something that it's not really designed to do, isn't it? This can sometimes be useful and fun, but can obviously also be done for malicious purposes, and that's sometimes referred to as "cracking" and the ones who do it as "crackers".

Wait a second. They use a 3rd party wireless card, and he said in the end that "the flaw is not in the Apple operating system as we used 3rd party hardware". I'd say that's quite different from the impression I got from reading the macrumors headline here. A default MacBook using the built in Airport isn't vulnerable as far as I can tell.

He also said that the exploit isn't as trivial as a generic buffer overflow. Now, to exploit a generic buffer overflow, you need to have a certain level of l337ness to begin with, so that means you don't have to worry about your neighbour braking into your wireless network, just yet. Unless someone releases premade tools to do the exploitation, I'd say that normal people and small businesses don't have to worry at the moment.

This appears to be a variation of another wireless attack in which you decoy the wireless network. In the old attack you could create your own wireless network that appeared as the one you'd expect. This attack uses similar principles.

The lesson here is: wireless networks are not secure. What bugs me most about this story is how it was presented as an Apple flaw, when really this is the fault of a buggy device driver and the OS. Windows and possibly Linux would fall under the same flaw.

Using wireless networks is inherently risky and if you're concerned about attacks, say in a financial or security environment, you don't use it.

Of course, all the people who pointed out how 'smug' Mac users are and how they deserved such an attack won't notice this particular situation and will merely cheer and clap in their glee that Apple hasn't built a Olympian-OS.

    Second.

Although... it could have just been fans who already owned pirated copies deciding that they liked the Beatles so much that they should legally download it.

I do that sometimes if I like something a lot and regret having pirated it.

So, if you steal something from the store, and feel guilty about it later, do you sneak in and try to put it back on the shelf? Just curious.
