Sounds something like the Nokia Internet Tablet but doesn't suck that much.

The games cost the companies millions to develop on each platform, and it is their intellectual property in the first place. Adding DRM to someone else's music takes a push of a button.
Which costs tens millions to operate and to license. Keep in mind that it's not any given music service which elects to use DRM, it's the recording companies that insist upon it. The reason why Fairplay is relatively lenient compared to other schemes is that it is locked down to a narrow set of compatible devices. You can copy your music to any number of iPods, for example--which goes far beyond "fair use" under the law. Win some, lose some.
I don't get your logic there at all. As I've just said, DRMd media isn't the same as software. If I didn't want a dominant Sony Walkman 20 years ago, I bought a Panasonic and my tapes still played. If I decided my Philips DVD Player was rubbish, I could buy a JVC and the DVDs still played.
You bought into an available open standard. There were competing proprietary ones as well--just none as popular as CD or DVD. There is still an available open standard (albeit often at a higher price per track). The availability of more limited music doesn't limit you one bit. You chose the limited version over the unencumbered one because it was faster, easier, and/or more customizable.
As far as I'm concerned, anything I OWN, I should have fair use rights over, even if I wish to change the make of my player. Steve Jobs makes a big deal about us OWNING our music when we buy from iTunes. If I truly own it, I should have the right to use it how I wish. Which is it?
You do own the DRMed music file. You can use it without continued payment and without time limits. Ownership of the intellectual property of others has always been nuanced. There's ownership of content (lyrics, performance, etc. can all have different owners), of distribution (including licensing for public performance), of a license to the media (on a CD belonging to you or in a digital file under your control), and of course various forms of renting and leasing. When you buy music from iTunes (or any other pay-once service), you have indefinite (timewise) usage rights and control of that license. You do not, nor can Apple legally grant you, total control over the file.
If DRM is necessary, it should be interoperable between different manufacturers. The aim of it should be to prevent illegal copying, not allow vendor lock in.
There's nothing wrong with vendor lock-in so long as an easily attainable, universal solution also exists. Since you are not obligated to buy anything from iTMS if you own an iPod, there is no justifiable harm. What I would like to see is a service permitting you to assemble custom CDs from individual tracks (instead of being forced to buy entire albums) and lower prices from iTunes. Both of these require the recording industry to embrace the Internet, rather than fight it.

I don't see why you'd need an active DI going into a Duet's preamp, but I could be wrong. Have a look on Gearslutz (http://www.gearslutz.com/board/), there's a lot of good info there.

Thanks for the responses, last time I opened it up and blew the dust out was about a year ago, so it may be time to do it again. It's possible the fan's going bad also I guess. At idle it runs at about 1500 RPM and the CPU's at about 30-35 C. It's actually not unbearably loud compared to other computers in general, it's just that my sister's 2010 is nearly silent.

According to what I remember and the sites I saw, to get Roman Numerals higher than Thousands(M), you would need to put a bar over the numerals, which effectively multiplies the numeral by 1000.
Yup.. and bars to the left and right as well, which left me unsatisfied..

I've been playing around with Handbrake for about a year now. Up until now I like it. I was using it to rip my DVD's to various formats for iTunes and the like. These DVD's don't come with a digital copy as some of them are quite old.
I was using the default settings for awhile and dealing with all the blockiness in the videos and thinking well this is just how its going to be. Even after changing some settings I noticed that there is distortion and blocks here and there etc etc. When playing Video back on iTunes its at its worst but VLC is good.
Recently Ive been trying to fix this issue and trying to figure out how to convert file types so that they have the same or the best possible quality as I change their format. Some movies look horrible, once they are converted from one format to another. Is there anybody who has alot of experience with this and would be willing to give some good advice?

Hi there,
I own the powerpcmac.com domain and I am needing to do some drastic changes to the site. Initially, the site was used as a small reseller site after I obtained an entire school district's worth of used machines. I have reduced my inventory from approximately 1500 used machines to 77, and have no interest in buying and reselling any more computers. I was thinking of doing some sort of Apple news/rumor/history/trade-board type site, but I wanted to see if people thought that the scene is oversaturated or if it would be worth my time. I will continue to own and use the domain name regardless, but I would be interested in what the MacRumors community thought. I wonder how many of these type of sites you visit on a regular basis, what you think of them, and whether I could build something that would be a compliment to, rather than a competitor of existing sites. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
PS. Please don't criticize the current site. It's coming down, and I will be asking my dad (20+ years experience in computers, 10+ in site design) for help this time. I am absolutely pathetic at site design, but I criticize very well, so I am well aware of the current site's numerous shortcomings.
Thanks for anything constructive you have to offer.

Look what happened to Dell when they focused on volume at the expense of their profit margin.
I can't say Acer will be successful, but they probably can't have too much of a positive long term view with a diminishing profit margin

Every time I read these threads I'm reminded why I don't have an iphone. Yeah, I have many other Apple devices, including a 3G iPad, but no iphone. I refuse to be a slave to the man. I wish subsidized devices didn't exist in this country. It reduces competition by locking people into contracts and ultimately holds technology back. Yeah, more people can own the "coolest" phone, but IMHO the ends don't justify the means.
This has been very frustrating for me too. I am disgusted that neither t-mobile or at&t have a pay as you go with data plan like the one for the ipad 3g. I would get an old 3gs or something and use it like that. I don't really make many calls so data is what I would use for email, etc.
This is possible is every freaking country in the world except in the US. I can't believe people tolerate this... it's a carrier dictatorship by any standards. I refuse to pay 60$us for a monthly bill when all I want is 25$us/2gig plus minutes I buy.

Great ad, could actually see it as a real Mac ad, though they would use all of their computers, but still, the MBP looks nice even blurred.

Same for MacBytes: "Macintosh News, Headings, and Links".
An aside: The Apple home page, hot news page, and hardware and software pages together use the word "Macintosh" only once! But people browsing Apple's site probably know what Mac stands for.
Good thought, but I don't think this is necessary. When I search in Google, I get this:
"Mac Rumors: Apple Mac Rumors and News You Care About [...]
Description: Apple news and rumors with user contribution and commentary."
People who are looking for Mac things should be able to figure it out, in my opinion. If they're looking for something else, they should be able to figure out that it's not the right place.

The interface has been re-skinned. Before, it used to look like Snow Leopard's.
I wish Apple would revert the green timeline to the old transparent one. I know the green has been here since Lion's first build, but still. It's pretty ugly.

I can't say that I'm at all surprised. First the idea of the subscription based model doesn't really fly when you can have the music with iTunes.
The zune was too little too late, they entered the market just as the iPod was peaking. Now that most of the functionality if in the phones, there is no demand.

I am looking for some good headphones because my cheap in ears have broken. Again. I heard skullcandy's are good. I found both of them for 28 dollars and 32 dollars on overstock.com. I plan on listening to rap and hip hop and techno with a little rock. Which one should I get? Opinions?

So those of us that are still using 3gS's (that are on their last leg) should prolly go ahead and get a 4, and then wait for the 6...
Not so awesome news, I shoulda got a 4 a few months back then, oh well, maybe I'll wait to see what the white 4 looks like if its released on the 26th...
Well, I have a iPhone 3GS and I'm not waiting for the iPhone 6 I want the faster processor the A5 chip and better camera. I already had to skip a generation due to upgrade eligibility. Why skip 2? Fo those of you who have the iPhone 4 that is another scenario but if it were me and my upgrade was eligible I's upgrade.
