When there is a big bug that sneaks into the application but isn't caught before the release of the app. You discover it after several people complain (and several in FB terms is probably thousands) but you can fix the problem in an hour. But then you need to wait 2-3 weeks for the application to be approved by apple. In the mean time you can't do jack **** because the app store is completely controlled by Apple.
Somehow this logic only makes me think that 'complete control' by Apple is a good thing. Something with as many users as FB warrants thorough testing prior to springing it on unsuspecting users. Just because of open source and 'free testing services' provided by the general public (ala Vista) doesn't really justify a lack of internal QA.
I guess now that Apple helped break down the practices of the carriers totally controlling and locking down crippled phones they suddenly are the bad guy.
Not saying their process is perfect, and I think some 'drama' around it will help it evolve - but - the fact that many developers don't bother to test their apps is one part of why the approval process exists.

It certainly is silly. People UPGRADING to Vista, as you just said, aren't going to buy the full retail $399 box. That's stupid. They are going to buy the Upgrade or oem.
I think M$FT completely sucks as a company. They are a necessary evil that I can deal with (just like many other corporations) and if they piss me off too much I will stop purchasing their products like I've done with other companies.
The problem with so many Mac appologists is that they are incapable of having an honest debate. You and snowy could rightly argue against the $259 upgrade price of Vista Ultimate or the ~$180 OEM price of Vista ultimate but you don't. You and others like you would rather be disingenous and go on and on about the $399 retail box version that very few will buy.

...I edit professionally and I am stoked by what I have seen so far. Anything that makes my life easier is a good thing... As others have said, just because amateurs can afford the software, it doesn't mean that they can use it well.So true to both your statements.

holy crap, when did this happen, now more core solo in the mac mini, imac with new screen size and core 2 duo.

I'm not sure about novels but I would love to be able to read articles from Time, Wired, New Yorker et cetera on my iPod. In the past I've copied them from the web and transferred them into a 'note' file for viewing on my iPod. However I'd love to be able to download them from iTunes like a podcast. 99 cents wouldn't be un-reasonable if it's a well written article and it's advertisement free.

Right. When you eat off of your gear you're always going to find ways to not spend SO MUCH on said gear so you can put more food in your mouth. Which is why I really don't have an issue claiming student-ship if I am able to. I personally don't do it with certain software titles, but I will do it with Apple hardware and others. AVID Media Composer is $2500 regular price give or take a few $100s. The EDU version is $295 . . . . . okay I am going to hop on that EDU bandwagon right now.

Apple, in my experience, will give you the edu price by just saying you are a student/teacher/buying it for one. I've seen them sell a Mac at that price to grandparents, etc. Pretty decent policy. MS just requires a .edu email, but then again technet is so cheap that the edu discount pales. of course, with technet using the software in a production environment is a license violation.
Just as the lenses you acquire in still/video photography will cost more than your body, software will be the major cost in building any rig.
Oh ya. I have several pieces of glass that individually cost more than the body. People complain about software lock in; MS / APPLE ?Adobe et. al. have nothing on the camera manufacturers and their proprietary mounts.
Read the comment thoroughly. ANYONE can learn the apps, any goofball like you stated yourself in the bold. I didn't put any time restraint on this goofball. But I did mention that it take far more to be a good designer.

Sounds like you've never actually ordered. Credit cards do not get charged until orders actually ship.
Further, obviously Apple didn't just decide last week to add RS, despite delays at other venues. The deal with RS would have been cut a long time ago, and Apple would be subject to certain supply requirements.
They sent the cover right away, 5 weeks earley, it was on the same order, that way they could charge the card for the sale earley!:confused:

There are many possibilities for the graphics of the Macbook. The GMA950 is at about the end of the road. Maybe we'll see Intel's X3000. If not, one of Nvidia's or ATi's integrated solutions would be nice.
I doubt we will see a change in graphics. I mean, I still see Dell and the other computer makers offering the 950 for their "consumer" laptops. Apple is usually a few weeks behind Dell et. al. in offering the newer components, so I would be very pleasantly surprised if Apple actually changed the graphics.

Yeah did that too. I had a huge surplus before I started increasing spending on infrastructure, education, social programs and alternative energy. Priorities, priorities.

The Constitution was set up almost as if to stop one person from being able to take up to war on a whim. If you look at the Constitution, it vests in the Congress the exclusive power to declare war. Things just have a way of changing. I thought Bush was bad enough with Iraq. Now Obama's actions are even worse than Bush's. Obama didn't even put up the charade of making a case.

yes, apple will be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't have that issue resolved in the second generation model.
does anyone know how many hrs it is until we should "expect" the announcement assuming it is going to be released within the next day.
Yeah, any kind of idea would be good...
This way apple updates their stuff is bloody annoying! You can't plan any upgrades, and I refuse to buy a macbook knowing full well that there is an update of any kind just around the corner!
As it stands I may actually need to purchase one very soon, but I don't think I could stomach buying into something this late in it's product cycle.

I just got my Mac mini / eyeTV HD DVR setup working, so both would suck, but (B) would suck more.
