He didn't say that at all. The question was if Apple is tracking user locations. He said no. Which is correct. The information never leaves your iphone or computer.
Unlike the app that shows the map of the spots which calls out to two servers, one of which couldn't be identified and for all we know is recording your data along with your IP and other deets.

I'm sure some Scion owners think it's pretty cool, and now it will be "even cooler" since it's "banned." I am still on 3.1.2, jailbroken, and seriously doubt anything will compel me to restore and update.
AT&T just sent me a text saying voicemails older than 30 days will be deleted, and if I want to save them, I need to update to iOS 4. Ha, no thanks. Not needed. My phone backgrounds any app I want, the battery lasts long enough, nothing crashes, all my alarms work fine despite daylight savings shifts and New Year glitches, and so on. My GF's iPhone, though... no such luck. She updated, and wishes she hadn't.

This is total BS.
ARM CPUs are far far behind Intel's non-Atom series in terms of performance.
This is due to their RISC architecture. That's also why they consume less power than x86.
If you're saying in 2 years ARM's performance may catch up to current Atom, then, it may be possible.
But compared with Core i series? It's the biggest joke I've ever heard.

An iPod with phone capabilities is a both natural and necessary step for Apple. Seeing how e.g. SonyEricsson already provides cellphones with 4 Gb stored music, Apple needs to act fast.
The interface of the iPod is brilliant, but I still believe that most people prefer one device instead of lugging around on both a cellphone and a Nano. The simple fact is that most of us have too many gadgets today; cellphone/iPod/digCam/PDA/GPS... You shouldn't need a dolly just to be able to bring all your "necessary" mobile electronic gadgets with you. Hence, including phone capabilities in the iPod is vital if Apple wants to stay in the mp3 market long term.

All it would take for me to become seriously interested in an Apple-branded phone would be for it to have an easy way to sync iCal and Address Book with my Mac, although if they're actually making one I assume they'll put some nano-sized music storage on it to keep it in line with the iPods.
Apple's all over "ease-of-use" strategy implies that they could definitely be the first company to make something that's a PDA, phone, and music player in one that doesn't look like a prop from an old cyberpunk B-movie - and is priced for consumers rather than business users, of course.

And I think Foxconn actually had around 800,000 employees at the time, 300,000 of which were at one factory.

I want the smallest possible device that can run OS X apps--and maybe that means no keyboard. 12" is too big a screen, and laptops/convertibles are thicker because of the keyboard. An on-screen keyboard or stylus would still allow input, and I'd be able to work on a short notice without lugging my massive 15" laptop anymore! And when at home, client's office, friend's house, etc. I'd plug in a borrowed keyboard and/or display for better productivity.
If home automation expands the market enough to bring me such a device, than good :)

I just forked over 750 dollars for an ipad 2 and ipad 3 is coming out? Ouch!!! I already want it.
I don't really buy that rumor. Apple rarely to never does a six month cycle on anything and shifting the iPad to the fall means no major product to help keep the stock price nice and high.
Plus an iPad on top of the new pods means more chaos for the retail staff, which I can't see them doing.
If anything I could see them shifting the iPads to late Jan or early Feb next go around and moving the spring laptops closer to the start of their annual back to school promo

Call me naive (or perhaps paranoid) but I've been assuming my location is being tracked since I bought my first smart phone years ago.
I guess the fine point of difference is: It is stored on your phone (and computer where you do the backup), but it is never send to anyone ... so Apple is not tracking you since they never see that information. Saying Apple tracks you would mean that information collected is send to Apple, which is not the case.

Seriously? A company with 2 CEO's and 3 COO's is not well structured or well managed. A company who has just downgraded earning expectations for the coming quarter is not well managed. A company whose stock price has crashed by more than 50 % in the last 18 months and is hoping that a new product that has been announced over 8 months ago, yet appears to be rushed to market and as it relies on another product to give it 3G connectivity has neither a product nor is a company with vision.

Rather than a traditional laptop/tablet idea, I'm envisioning a small device that truly combines
1. music/vid player
2. cell phone
3. camera
4. osx capable computer
If/when the tech is in place for something like this, it would be really appealing to alot of people, myself included. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of gadgets, something which really replaced all my current junk would be very cool.

9/10 Apple fans think Apple can do no wrong. Regardless of their shortcomings, most seem blind and too eager to hand their money over the Apple without regard to the true value of Apple's offerings. The other side of that is, if you buy into the walled garden, you have to generally suck it up. Apple has always done it there way, and will probably continue to do it their way regardless if it benefits the consumer. I've found most of the time what they do only benefits their coffers. They could easily make changes up front, but feel it's best for their pockets if they stagger features over years at a time knowing people will buy each and ever "upgrade" Apple delivers.
Related to the subject line, if it were any other company, like Microsoft, Dell or whomever pre-ordering and buying whole supply lines knowing their competitors would be strangled, there would be an antitrust/monopoly case launched immediately. The simple fact that Apple is a media and government darling precludes them from any serious thought by officials that would choose to stop this monopoly from continuing. Just as above, I know 9/10 fans here will blast me for stating the honest truth, but.. true story bro. Apple can do no wrong and their fan base is living proof of that.

Wanting to avoid supply constraints, Apple decided to use its massive cash reserves to pre-order as much supply as possible to ensure availability for launch. The touchscreen manufacturers can only produce so much supply of touchscreens. It's not like those touchscreen manufacturers signed an exclusivity deal with Apple saying that they would make touchscreens for Apple alone. Apple simply bought most of the supply that those manufacturers would be able to produce. How is that anti-competitive?
As for Apple being a "media and government darling," I call complete BS on that. In case you haven't heard, Apple's stock is a constant target for market manipulation. Every business decision that Apple makes is called underhanded, never mind that it's a perfectly legitimate business move and everybody else does it or would do it too. Ok I have installed the car kit. It was more difficult than i thought ONLY because while I have a sloping dash board and it's leather, it is NOT smooth leather but rather a grainy textured leather. I could not get the plastic disk to stick to the surface--even if I put it higher up on the dash toward the windshield where it is flat. Thoughts of crazy glue were beginning to run through my mind.
I installed it on the windshield just to see if I'd like it. It was great but a tad too far to see clearly (even with glasses); I didn't like the wires hanging down; and it did draw my eye every time i used the rear view mirror and obstructed my view (but only a bit--could probably get used to it in time).
So I was at the point of wondering if I was going to return it to Apple Store when I found a space that would work that was left of the radio and had a small flat plastic area. The disk is only partially on the plastic but holds incredible firmly. By moving the suction cup to the right edge of the flat disk, I can see the entire screen easily in either portrait or landscape mode without covering the radio or any controls.
AND the unexpected PLUS is that it sits below the dashboard and won't require me to disconnect it to put in the console when away from the car. I was not comforable with the idea of leaving the kit in full view which may or may not invite break-ins. Another plus is very very little cord from kit to lighter area is needed so wires hanging or dangling are at a minimum. The wire from audio to my audio input in the center console is easily accomodated by the 3 foot audio cord. I used the plastic holders that were pictured in previous post so that wires are contained and not obtrusive.
With regards to using Bluetooth for handsfree driving. My car is very quiet and I and my callers had no problem hearing each other. I just hold the main button and do voice dialing. Piece of cake.

iPhone competitors: $200 phones: HTC Evo, Droid Incredible, etc..
I'd like to see a breakdown of Android by these metrics.
Take all the MetroPCS and Free junk out of the stats and lets see whose premium offerings are reigning supreme.
We can take out the 3GS to make everything "equal".

These companies can just float away on their clouds. Cloud-based would make sense if there was wireless and cellular completely covering the nation/world... using cloud at this time would castrate their share of market. I take "cloud-based" rumors as pure rumors at this time. Maybe in 2020 it will be feasible, and no doubt it is being developed. However, by 2020 we will have 1TB iPads. What's the point of cloud, then? Control? Observation?

I can see apple maybe putting an ARM chip in the macbook so it can run in low power tablet mode, but to complete replace the CPU really makes no sense. However lots that the do seldom makes sense, so who knows. The reason I won't be buying a mac again is simply because they are severly underpowered, gaming really sucks on them compared to what you can get on a PC.
